Balneário Camboriú expands its underground container network to improve urban waste management

The municipality of Balneário Camboriú, a coastal city in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, has strengthened its commitment to more efficient and sustainable waste management with the installation of twelve new underground containers from the CONTENUR brand, adding to those already in operation in the city. With this expansion, the municipal network now reaches a total of 34 operational units, strategically located along Central Beach.

The new underground container system allows residents and visitors to dispose of mixed and recyclable waste in a convenient and safe manner, while also improving aesthetic integration within the urban environment. As the containers are installed below ground level, only the waste inlets remain visible, contributing to a cleaner and more orderly image in areas with high public footfall.

These units stand out for their hermetically sealed design, which prevents odour emissions, and for their increased storage capacity, optimising collection processes and minimising the visual impact of waste in public spaces. This initiative forms part of the city’s comprehensive urban redevelopment plan and the BC Bem Cuidada programme, focused on promoting modern, sustainable infrastructure aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life.

The expansion of the underground container network reinforces the municipality’s commitment to more advanced, efficient and environmentally responsible waste management solutions. It also consolidates a growing trend among cities seeking to enhance the quality of public spaces through technologies that combine functionality, design and sustainability.
