The Autonomous City of Melilla has taken a significant step forward in modernising its waste management services with the implementation of a new integrated urban waste containerisation system based on a full-service leasing model, including maintenance. The project involved the installation of 1,250 360IGLOO bilateral crane-lift containers for the separate collection of all waste fractions across the city.
The new deployment has enabled the replacement of the city's ageing metal container fleet with containers manufactured from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), a solution that offers greater durability, reduces maintenance requirements and contributes to improved operational efficiency.
The project has also introduced a management model focused on operational control, responsiveness and the continuous improvement of public services. The Autonomous City has adopted an integrated solution that combines supply, operation and maintenance under a single responsibility model, ensuring continuity, traceability and high service performance from day one.
The 360IGLOO has been designed to deliver outstanding accessibility, ergonomics and durability while optimising collection operations and extending the container's service life. This new system provides greater consistency across waste collection points, enhances the city's urban landscape and supports more efficient waste management.
