CONTENUR, a leading company in integrated waste containerisation solutions, has obtained the Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS) certification at its production plants in Mielec (Poland) and Knowsley (United Kingdom), reinforcing its commitment to sustainability after successfully passing the programme’s official audits.

This certification forms part of a global initiative promoted by the plastics industry to prevent the loss of pellets, flakes and plastic powders into the environment. Each year, it is estimated that around 230,000 tonnes of industrial microplastics potentially end up in natural environments across Europe, making the implementation of control and prevention systems a priority for the sector.

Both plants have undertaken targeted investments in infrastructure, employee training and operational controls to minimise the environmental impact of their activities. These measures include reinforced containment systems, cleaning protocols, and emergency procedures in the event of spills. As a result, the company has significantly reduced the risk of material leakage during the handling, transport and transformation of polymers.

During the audit process, various aspects were assessed, including the containment measures implemented, operational procedures, the effectiveness of training actions and awareness throughout the value chain. The results obtained placed both facilities above the standards required by the OCS programme.

“This achievement demonstrates our responsibility in the fight against microplastic pollution. At our Mielec and Knowsley plants alone, we process around 15,000 tonnes of plastic materials annually for the manufacture of urban containerisation solutions; ensuring their proper management was a key objective,” stated Diego Gagete, Operations Director of the CONTENUR Group.

CONTENUR’s adherence to the OCS programme supports the European objective of zero pollution and contributes to compliance with the European Plastics Strategy, which aims to minimise the presence of microplastics in waterways and ecosystems.
